Chamonix et Les Alpes

This post features student writing.

The past two days now feel like a lifetime. In this time, we left the sparkling, warm sands of Mediterranean beaches at St. Raphaël for the still pleasant, albeit less warm, valleys of the Alps at Chamonix. Our 12-hour travel day two days ago, the 26th of July, ended in a charming dinner of finding any edible nourishment to dip in fondue. After dinner, there was much discussion on what should be done the following morning, and ultimately it was decided we would take les oeufs, or the cable cars, up Mont Blanc.

While the view was phenomenal and it was snowing in July, the group definitely felt the effects of the altitude. It was rough going, but after much time for napping and relaxing, we were able to joke about the morning’s challenges at dinner. Dinner was delicious, as always, and the specialty of the restaurant was la raclette, or a block of cheese that melts at your table with meat, pickles, and potatoes to enjoy it with. Currently, we are taking the train to our next location, a chalet on the other side of Chamonix before our next adventures begin at the centre-ville in town!

À bientôt,
Josh
